Lecithin

FROM LECITHIN TO PHOSPHOLIPID CONCENTRATE

Lecithins are animal and vegetal substances, consisting of mixtures of phospholipids, triglycerides and proteins. Phospholipids and their derivatives find application in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. From the chemical structure point of view, phospholipids are triglycerides in which one fat acid is substituted by a phosphoric group, which is then connected to a more complex molecule.
In lecithin we find the presence of phosphatidylinositol (PI- inositol functional group), of phosphatidylcholine (PC- choline functional group), of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE- ethanolamine functional group), .... In the market you can find soy, sunflower, corn, and other lecithin, having a vegetal origin as well as egg, fish, and other animal lecithin. The animal lecithin contains groups of polyunsaturated fat acids indicated as omega-3 and omega-6 in its triglyceride component.

Since few years Fortom Chimica Srl has been specializing in processes of extraction/concentration of phospholipids from lecithin, having different origin.
For example, its products are concentrated in phosphatidylcholine (35%, 50% from soy, sunflower, egg yolk), in phosphatidylinositol and its derivative (PI at 15-20%, glycerophosphatidylinositol, from sunflower), in omega-3 from eggs.
The flexibility of the industrial plants, the knowledge of raw materials and the experience in the processes, give Fortom Chimica Srl the possibility to perform focused and specific extractions according to the customer’s needs, in order to obtain concentrated suitable to further refining/synthesis steps used in the above mentioned industrial fields.
